David Lee Bergeron

1961 — March 11, 2025

Raceland

David Lee Bergeron, affectionately known as "Hoppergrass," Fat Black" and at times, "Hog," passed away at the age of 63 on March 11, 2025, at his residence in the company of his beloved wife, Amanda Thompkins Bergeron, and other family members. Born in New Orleans, David was a beacon of light and love to all who knew him.

David's spirit was infused with a generosity that knew no bounds. He was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer an encouraging word. His legendary sense of humor brought joy to countless gatherings, and his laughter could brighten even the darkest days. Family and friends were always at the forefront of his heart, as he often checked on their well-being, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

An avid fan of the New Orleans Saints, David took pleasure in cheering for his team, sharing moments of triumph and heartbreak with his family. His passion extended beyond sports to include a profound love for good food, for movies, and keeping up with current events, always engaging in conversations that sparked laughter and insight.

David was a true reflection of love and faith, always bringing warmth to the lives of those around him. He found joy in the simplest yet most profound moments, especially in his daily conversations with his dear friend Kevin A. Harris. These talks, often about everything and nothing at the same time, always ended with the heartfelt words, “I love you, Man,” a testament to the deep bond they shared.

Above all, David cherished the time spent with his wife, Amanda, whom he affectionately called "Honeybun." Their bond was a beautiful testament to love, partnership, and companionship—a sanctuary where they shared faith, love, and an appreciation for life's simple pleasures. David's devotion also extended deeply to his children and grandchildren, who brought boundless joy and pride into his life.

David was a man of faith, finding comfort in his church and in listening to the Word of God. David cherished conversations about the Goodness of God, sharing his unwavering faith and bringing light and hope to all who listened. His spiritual journey was marked by resilience; he never let sickness or illness dampen his spirit and never complained, demonstrating a strength of character that inspired those around him.

As we remember David, we gather to celebrate a truly remarkable man whose legacy is woven through the lives of his family, children, grandchildren, and friends. His warmth, laughter, and indomitable spirit will forever hold a cherished place in the hearts of all who knew him.
