Gloria Mae Jefferson, a self-starter and lifelong learner, was born on August 16, 1931, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Esther Barnes and Willie Green. At the young age of 13, Gloria left Natchez in search of a better life and settled in Cleveland, Ohio.
In Cleveland, she enjoyed dancing, listening to music, and attending church. She began working as an operator at General Electric at just 17 years old. Known for her strong work ethic, Gloria dedicated many years to the company and retired at the age of 65.
Later, Gloria moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, to be closer to family. She enjoyed spending time with friends and exploring new hobbies, including creating floral arrangements and painting. After Hurricane Katrina, she relocated to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she found joy in activities at the Senior Citizen Center.
Gloria was a woman of deep faith and was called home to the Lord on December 14, 2025, at the age of 94. She loved pointing friends and family to God during difficult seasons. Her answer to life’s challenges was – “Talk to God and trust Him.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Janie Green Johnson; brothers, Alonzo Green, Willie “Sonny” Green, and Richard Green; sister-in-law Ernestine Green and Knoxine Green; and nephew, Richard Green Jr.
Gloria leaves to cherish her memory, sister Carrie Green of Riverside, CA and brother George Green (Shirley) of Corona, CA; three beloved nieces: Carolyn Green Owens and Diane Washington (Harry Billups) of Natchez, MS; Kathleen Ruth (Cory) of Atlanta, GA. She leaves nephews Alonzo Green, Tyrone Green (Shonta), and Terry Green, all of Natchez, MS and special friends – the Shepherd family of Cleveland, Ohio and a host of other nieces and nephews.
