Harold Howard Jones, Sr., also known as “Kamau”, was born, January 23. 1949 in Baton Rouge, LA to the late Willie L. Sr.and Pearl E. Pitts Jones. He was the third of five children born to this union. Kamau departed this life, December 20, 2021, at the Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. He was baptized at an early age, by Rev. G.R. Clark of the First Emmanual Missionary Baptist Church of B.R., LA. Kamau, waseducated in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, and a 1967 graduate of Capitol High School where he excelled in academics and played basketball. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management in the College of Business from Southern University, B.R. He continued his education, earning master’s degrees in Business Administrationand Education. Kamau was intelligent, known as a voracious reader and skilled debater. His major area of literary focus was the history of black peoples. He had an insatiable appetite for the historical roles and impact Black people made in society; locally, nationally, and indeed globally. He continued to keep himself abreast on current matters related to this subject in recent print resources. He was fluent in Swahili, both in speaking and writing the language. Although Kamau will be remembered for his intellect, let it also be known that he could be a bit aggressive at times. Kamau was employed in Baton Rouge at Exxon Refinery andowner of Bandele’s Neighborhood Grocery in Atlanta, GA. Upon returning to Baton Rouge, he shared his entrepreneur spirit with his two brothers and established Tri J’s Corporation which consisted of Grocery stores, liquor store and Dry-Cleaningbusiness. They were in business for 20 years. Harold “Kamau” is survived by two sons, Harold H. Jones, Jr., West Monroe, LA and Kibwe D. Jones of Baton Rouge, La.; two brothers, Baye Iyanu (Nomzamo) and Selwyn D. Jones (Jacqueline) Jones; two aunts: Irma Jones and Rose Jones, both of Zachary, LA; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Willie L. III, and Dalvage, grandparents: Willie, Jr and Hattie P. Jones,Pearl Bowman, Obey Mason, Aunts; Lizzie, Estelle, Agnes, Vinnie, Adelae, and Rosa: Uncles; James (Sonny), Leon, Cleveland, John, and Howard: Kamau was always full of wit, humor, & knowledge like his father & had a kind heart like his mother; and though he is no longer physically among us, he will always be in our hearts & will never be forgotten.
