Born on October 10, 1948, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Helen lived a life marked by humble, quiet strength, profound kindness, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones.

A proud graduate with honors from McKinley Senior High School, Helen’s thirst for knowledge carried her forward to attending LSU, where she embraced the growth and learning that would shape her journey. Her career was dedicated to service as she retired from the United States Postal Service, where her calm demeanor and gentle nature made an indelible mark on many lives.

Helen was known for embodying the true meaning of a friend — steadfast, loving, and compassionate. She never allowed life challenges to dampen her spirit; rather, her calm disposition kept her from getting upset or complaining, earning her a reputation as one of the most lovable souls. Her artistic passions illuminated her world, as she spent hours painting and sculpting, creating works that reflected her deep appreciation for beauty and expression.

Since 1969, Helen has embraced her faith as a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, a foundation that has brought peace and purpose to her life and to all those she has touched. Her proudest accomplishments were her daughters---- Cassandra, D. Chaney, Alana L. Triplett, and Tamekaa F. Triplett----her seven grandchildren, Parris D., Patia D., Darling P., A' Riel A., Arrion D., Elliyah M., and Annahah R. Anderson, and her twelve great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives, family, and friends who were blessed by her love and presence.

Helen leaves behind a legacy woven with grace, faith, and artistry. She was a woman who taught by example, showing that true strength lies in quiet resilience and genuine care for others. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, the warmth of her love and the beauty of her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Her siblings, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family find comfort in the memories of her gentle smile, her artistic talents, and the valuable lessons she imparted. Helen Marie Smith Chaney, aka “Nancy”, life was a testament to a soul that touched many, a sister, mother, relative, and friend who showed what it truly means to love and be loved. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered with tenderness and gratitude.
