Jacquelyn Margaret Ann Stansberry Montgomery

1940 — May 11, 2025

Baton Rouge

Jacquelyn Margaret Ann Stansberry Montgomery, a beacon of love and strength, transcended to the next chapter of her journey on May 11, 2025, leaving behind an indelible legacy woven through her roles as a devoted mother, grandmother, educator, and friend. Born in 1940, in the vibrant heart of New Orleans, Louisiana, Jacquelyn was a force of nature whose spirit resonated with laughter, melody, and an elegant splash of her signature red lipstick.

With a career rooted deeply in her unwavering commitment to education, Jacquelyn proudly served under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese, inspiring generations of students with her wisdom and grace. She was a trailblazer, being among the first black students to integrate LSUNO, a proud accomplishment that spoke to her courage and determination in an era that demanded resilience.

In the warmth of her home, Jacquelyn transformed everyday moments into cherished memories. The walls echoed with the songs she sang and melodies she hummed, infusing her family’s lives with joy and love. She reveled in the simple pleasures of shopping and always took immense pride in her appearance, ensuring that she looked beautiful, not just for herself but for those she loved dearly. Whether doting on her grandchildren or enjoying quality time with her family, her essence radiated a warmth that made every gathering feel special.

Jacquelyn’s legacy of love will resonate through her daughters, Kim Mulder (Michael) and Dana Cain,  and her son, Leo Montgomery Jr. (Jennifer). She adorned the lives of her grandchildren—Michael, Donisica,  Taylor, Leo III, Micheale', and Marcus—with an affection that shaped their hearts and minds, and her love even embraced her six great-grandchildren. Her siblings, Bennieta and Debra, and numerous other relatives and friends, are left to celebrate a life beautifully lived, forever marked by her spirit.

She now joins her beloved husband, Leo Montgomery, in eternal rest, along with her parents, Benjamin and Corinne Robbins Stansberry. Their absence is sorrowful, yet their shared memories illuminate the path Jacquelyn has traveled, a testament to the bonds of love that remain powerful beyond the veil of this life.

A viewing to honor Jacquelyn’s remarkable journey will be held on May 16, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St. Josephine Bakhita Catholic Church ( formerly St Mary of the Angels Catholic Church) in New Orleans, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. She will then be laid to rest at Providence Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Metairie.

In the lives she touched and the love she gave, Jacquelyn Montgomery is not just remembered; she is celebrated as a vibrant spirit who, through her nurturing, has left us reminders of courage, beauty, and the undeniable power of family. Her legacy will forever be etched in our hearts, a song that continues to hum through the corridors of our lives.
