Jeanette C. Johnson, a beacon of love, kindness, and unwavering faith, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, at the age of 66, at Ochsner Medical Center. Born on February 8, 1960, Jeanette’s life was a testament to the power of devotion—to God, to family, and to a spirit of hope and encouragement that touched all who knew her.
Jeanette was a woman defined by her gentle heart and steadfast support. She was deeply loving and kind, an enduring source of encouragement to those around her. Her days were filled with meaningful pursuits: she found great joy in being on the prayer line, where her voice lifted many spirits; she adored traveling and making memories with her beloved family; and she delighted in the captivating world of soap operas. A true fan at heart, she cheered for the Southern University Jaguars with passionate devotion. Her favorite scriptures, Psalm 91 and Psalm 23, were her daily refuge and guiding light, echoing the faith that shaped her very being.
The core of Jeanette’s joy was her family. She loved them deeply and prayed fervently for their wellbeing, always placing their needs and happiness at the center of her heart. She took immeasurable pride in her children and grandchildren, considering their successes her proudest accomplishments. Her sons—Romero Matthews, Nero Matthews (and his companion Ashleigh), and Lekeem Matthews (and his wife Jalynn)—were her pride and joy. She was equally treasured by her grandchildren Nero Jr., Nia, Nyla, Noah, Jaylee, and London, who will carry her memory forward in the laughter, love, and strength they share.
Jeanette’s family circle extended to her brothers Charleis Augustus and Melvin Barrow, her sister Audrey Jacob, and the warmth of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who found in her a loyal and compassionate presence. She followed a lineage rich with love, though her devoted companion Robert Matthews, her parents Charles Augustus Sr. and Alma Johnson, and siblings Catreal Johnson, Jessie Ray Johnson, and Josie Brown have now gone before her.
In honoring Jeanette’s life, friends and family will gather at the Bible World Christian Center, located at 1771 Lobdell Boulevard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on June 20, 2026. They will begin with a viewing at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m., a beautiful farewell befitting her serene spirit and the timeless legacy she leaves behind. She will be laid to rest immediately following in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Port Allen, La.
