It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kenney Ray Young Jr., a cherished son, devoted father, and creative soul, who left us too soon at the age of 37 on December 30, 2025, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. Born on July 8, 1988, in Baton Rouge, LA, Kenney embraced the world around him with a unique perspective, melding his love for music with his introspective nature.
Kenney’s life was a testament to the power of love and connection. His devotion to his family was unwavering, and the small circle he cultivated was filled with deep bonds that he treasured. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Kiy’rea McHenry, whom he considered his greatest accomplishment and pride. The love they shared was a beacon in his life, illuminating even the darkest days.
He leaves behind his mother, Shannon Wright, and stepfather, Charles Wright; as well as his father, Kenney Young Sr.; and his sister, Shandreka Young. Kenney's legacy continues through his grandmothers, Linda Montague and Viola Young, along with a heartwarming blend of stepsiblings: Charles Brown, Chadtaun Brown, Terrance Gibbs, Milliceyn Jackson, Charlesia Wright, De’Vonte Coleman, and Charleston Wright. Kenney also held dear his aunts Tiffany (Derrick) Williams, Debbrie Young, Bwahimah (Christopher) Chatman, Pricilla (Thomas) Henry, and Catha Price and uncles Keenan (Chenedra) Riley, Jai Wright, and Louis Price Jr. His special cousin, Nekia Montague, held a sisterly place in his heart, and he is also remembered fondly by a host of other cousins, relatives, friends, and his girlfriend, Sherry Lawson.
Although Kenney faced life as a loner and a thinker, his creativity found solace in music. He had a profound passion for rapping and singing, often expressing himself through writing. His love for music served as an outlet, as did his love for the Bible, which guided his journey after accepting Christ at an early age. Kenney's easy-going and laid-back personality endeared him to those who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a deep thinker whose artistry resonated deeply, leaving echoes of his creative spirit in everything he touched.
Kenney is preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Montague Jr. and Louis Price Sr., and his aunt, Terryon Montague. They welcomed him into the eternal embrace with open arms, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
The memories of Kenney Ray Young Jr. will remain in the hearts of his loved ones forever. In honoring his life, services will be held to celebrate Kenney’s memory, beginning with a viewing at Bible World Christian Center in Baton Rouge on January 17, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 11:00 AM. His final resting place will be at Resting Place Memorial Garden.
As we reflect on his life, we remember a man who loved fiercely, created passionately, and connected with those closest to him in profound ways. Kenney Ray Young Jr. will be deeply missed, and his legacy of love and creativity will forever resonate through those he touched.
