Lonald Ray Blakes, affectionately known as Sonny, was born on July 7, 1966, in Monroe, Louisiana. He brought joy and laughter to all who knew him, known for his humorous personality and his talent as a jack of all trades. He passed away on January 24, 2026, at the age of 59, at The Crossing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Throughout his life, Sonny was a dedicated hard worker, often balancing multiple roles to provide for his loved ones. His greatest pride lay in his children—Jazmine Blakes, Lamira Lang, and Nathlee Duncan—as well as his five grandchildren. Sonny’s love for family was profound, and he always sought to encourage and uplift those around him.
Sonny is survived by his beloved mother, Joanne Blakes Martin; his devoted partner, Tabatha Lang; and his siblings: Patricia Blakes, Charlotte Blakes, Chiquita Blakes, Ramon (Leanne) Blakes, Dinatte Leblanc, Thomas (Mandy) King, and Morrell Chapman (Clyde Sr) Scott. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
He is preceded in death by his father, Tommy Chapman; his stepfather, George Martin; and his sister, Alzeria Blakes. Their memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew them.
Sonny will be remembered for his infectious smile, his love for a good joke, and the unyielding support he offered his family. His spirit will continue to live on through the countless memories and moments shared with family and friends.
