Lucille Smith

February 15, 1935 — December 22, 2025

Baton Rouge

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lucille Smith, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who departed this life at the age of 90 on December 22, 2025, at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice. Born on February 15, 1935, in Americus, Georgia, Lucille was a radiant spirit whose warmth and kindness touched everyone she met.

Lucille was a woman of extraordinary talent, skilled in the art of transforming food into exquisite works of art, particularly through her beautiful pastries and vibrant designs with fruits and vegetables in various restaurants. Her culinary creativity was only matched by her caring soul—she was a loving figure who never met a stranger. Lucille had a remarkable ability to brighten any room with her infectious laughter and humor, bringing joy wherever she went.

Graduating a year early from high school, Lucille's intelligence shone through all her endeavors. She lived life fully and on her own terms, often opening her home to anyone in need and sharing meals with those who found themselves hungry. Lucille's love for family was profound, and her proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her cherished children and grandchildren.

Lucille is survived by her loving children, Deborah Garrett, Willie Frank Smith Jr., John Eric Smith, Randall Romero Smith, Dionne Mars, and her husband Samuel Mars. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who were the light of her life. Her love and influence will continue to echo through the generations that follow her.

Sadly, Lucille is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Willie Frank Smith Sr., her parents Roosevelt and Daisy Rome, and her beloved daughter Carolyn Vallery. She also mourned the loss of her sons Adrian Siggal Sr. and Robert Lee Smith, as well as her dear cousin Willie Mae Brown, who was like a sister to her and her cousin Peggy McCall. She is also reunited in spirit with her mother-in-law, Albertha Emile, who she held dear to her heart.

Lucille's faith was a steadfast anchor throughout her life; she accepted Christ at an early age and carried that faith in her heart every day. Her legacy of love, humor, and artistry will remain forever in the hearts of her family and friends.

A viewing to honor Lucille’s life will be held at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on January 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at the same location at 11:00 AM.

As we say farewell to Lucille Smith, we remember a woman who gave so much of herself, always with a caring heart and an open door. Her spirit will continue to inspire and comfort all who had the privilege of knowing her.
