Mattie Bell Stevenson passed away on November 21, 2025, at the age of 85 at Heritage Manor of Baton Rouge II. Born October 21, 1940, in Pointe Coupee Parish, Mattie lived a life marked by resilience, faith, and dedication to her craft.
A graduate of Batchelor High School, Mattie worked for many years as a cook at a hotel, where her skill and care brought joy to countless guests. Her love for cooking was a defining part of her life, remembered by all who experienced her meals. She also endured and overcame the challenges of Hurricane Katrina, carrying forward a spirit of strength and perseverance. Mattie accepted Christ at an early age and remained steadfast in her faith throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Stevenson; her son, Vernell Stevenson, and his wife, Georgianna; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins , other relatives and friends including her dear friend, Rosetta Batiste.
A viewing will be held on November 29, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. John Baptist Church, 22016 LA-417 in Lettsworth, Louisiana. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM in the church cemetery.
Mattie Bell Stevenson’s life is remembered for her faith, her resilience, and her enduring contributions to those around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of family and friends.
