Obituary

Those who truly knew Patrick will forever remember his infectious laughter and brilliant smile—simple, unforgettable expressions of the joy he brought wherever he went.

Patrick Edwards passed away at the age of 58, surrounded by love, on July 14, 2026, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Born on February 29, 1968, in Baton Rouge, Patrick’s life was as unique and exceptional as his leap year birthday—marked by moments of joy, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to his family and friends.

Patrick’s story is one deeply rooted in his beloved Baton Rouge, shaped by the traditions and community he cherished. A proud 1986 graduate of McKinley Sr High, Patrick carried the strengths of his youth into adulthood, thriving in the construction industry. As a masterful plasterer, he became known not only for his skilled hands but also as the neighborhood candy man, where his generosity extended beyond just sweets—he was always ready with a smile and a good-natured joke that lifted the spirits of those around him.

Those who truly knew Patrick will forever remember his infectious laughter and brilliant smile—simple, unforgettable expressions of the joy he brought wherever he went. With an unmatched wit and a reputation as a smooth-talking jokester, he possessed a rare charm that could brighten even the dullest day. Yet underneath the humor lay a sense of responsibility—Patrick took care of business and lived life on his own terms, unwavering and genuine in his approach to the world.

Music was a constant companion for Patrick; the soundtracks of various genres filled his days and reflected the many facets of his personality. He cherished the small delights, like indulging in his favorite treat: a banana royal—topped, of course, with a cherry—from Baskin Robbins. Through all of life’s changes, Patrick found joy in these moments of simple pleasure.

Of all his accomplishments, it was his family that formed the heart of Patrick’s greatest pride. He leaves behind his loving daughter, A’Me James Bell, and her husband Solomon Bell; his devoted son, Ahmad James, and daughter-in-law Iesha James. Patrick’s legacy lives on through his grandchildren—Tatum, Titan, Tegan, Toryn, and Tuhan Bell, and Genesis, Isaiah, and Jeremiah James. He is also survived by his siblings: brother Clairmont “Dankey” Edwards, sister Rita Edward Pierce, sister Toni Lynn Coleman, and brother Todd Edwards. Each one carries within them the warmth, wisdom, and humor that Patrick so generously shared.

In his final months, Patrick took solace in reaffirming his faith and rededicated his light to Christ, a meaningful renewal that brought peace to those who loved him most. His journey ended with the same gentle strength with which he lived: lifting others up, bringing smiles, and reminding us in both subtle and grand ways that life’s true measure is found in the joy we share and the legacies we leave.

The memory of Patrick Edwards—his laughter, his unwavering spirit, and above all, his love—will forever echo in the hearts of all who knew him.
